Concordia Workshop: Use Cases Driving Identity in Enterprise 2.0: The Consumerization of IT
Date: Monday, July 27

Description: Participate in this working session as end users, deployers and technology providers discuss identity-based use cases reflecting the intersection of traditional enterprise with Web 2.0 and SaaS, models with consumer underpinnings that are turning traditional IT approaches inside-out. The group will problem-solve together to discover and define:
- Different styles of provisioning/federating identities
- Privacy concerns around unmanaged employee usage of outside tools
- Security and policy approaches to address virtualization and the cloud
- Authorization models that combine flexible access to resources with appropriate administrative controls
In Concordia workshops, real-world use cases rule: we work together to understand trends and requirements, and then facilitate effective results in future technology development and harmonization. If you have a use case you'd like to share—please submit your suggested presentation and summary by June 19 to Britta Glade (britta@projectliberty.org). As the agenda develops, it will be posted on the Concordia wiki.

Special Interest Group: Cloud Computing Security and Identity Management
Date: Tuesday, July 28

Description: Cloud computing alters business risk and limits organizations’ ability to control, monitor, and audit access to their data. The cloud computing security SIG will bring Burton Group analysts, Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) representatives, end user organizations, and leading edge solution providers to discuss identity management and other issues in the rapidly emerging cloud computing security space. It will provide an opportunity for attendees to come up to speed on issues such as:
- How is cloud computing transforming enterprise security programs and approaches?
- How can identity and access management help to enable cloud adoption and enforce policies on usage and administration?
- What architectures and tools work best to project identity to and from the cloud?
- How should organizations integrate cloud and on-premise IdM and security systems and processes?

Special Interest Group: Oracle/Sun: Acquisition Effects on the Data Center

Description: What does Oracle’s acquisition of Sun mean to your data center operations? Will Oracle’s relationships with major hardware vendors such as HP, IBM, and EMC be hampered? Or will Oracle sacrifice Sun’s hardware business? What about the competing operating system stacks: Oracle Enterprise Linux vs. Solaris 10? Or the soon-to-be four virtualization technologies: OVM, xVM, Containers, and Virtual Iron? Special Interest Group: Oracle/Sun: Acquisition Effects for IdM and Application Platforms

Description: The April 20th announcement that Oracle is acquiring Sun Microsystems sent huge shockwaves through the IT marketplace. In particular, Sun customers are concerned about their investments and are eager to learn what the combined product roadmap has in store. Many Sun/Oracle customers must make product selection decisions during the quiet period for the acquisition – they can’t stop their businesses until the product roadmap is released. Given this situation, Burton Group is hosting a Special Interest Group (SIG) session at Catalyst to provide a forum where Sun and Oracle customers can discuss identity and application middleware issues.
During the SIG, Burton Group analysts Anne Thomas Manes and Lori Rowland will present a consolidated perspective on issues and concerns that customers have raised. Attendees will also have ample time to air additional topics of concern.

Interoperability Event: SSO for Cloud-Based Applications
Date: Wednesday, July 29
Time: 6pm - 9:30pm
Description: Burton Group is hosting a single sign-on interoperability event during the Catalyst Conference. This year, we will focus on hosted, SaaS or cloud-based applications as the trend of utilizing off-premise applications continues to be a very hot topic for enterprises. Instead of requiring a password for every off-premise application, this demo will illustrate how standards such as SAML, WS-Federation, OpenID, and others can be utilized. Participants in the demo will represent a broad range of technology providers, SaaS application providers, Internet properties, and social software sites.
Interop participants have agreed upon the base scenario for the demo. In this case, identity provider instances will demonstrate single sign-on to several application environments – using SAML, WS-Federation and OpenID. Where supported, identity providers will also demonstrate just in time provisioning of user access. Several hosted or SaaS application participants have been identified, including SalesForce.com, Google Apps, eXpresso Corp, WebEx, and others will be announced in the near future.
An advanced scenario is being developed that combines SAML 2.0 and OpenID to meet NIST’s Level 1 through Level 3 identity assurance guidelines. This scenario is being built around a sample application, led by JanRain.
